Medtronic's recent data breach has exposed the personal and medical data of over 3.8 million individuals, prompting the medical technology leader to issue notifications.

The incident, which took place in April 2026, saw the notorious ransomware group ShinyHunters gain unauthorized access to Medtronic's corporate IT infrastructure. On April 17, ShinyHunters publicized the breach on their Tor-based leak site, asserting that they had obtained more than 9 million records containing personal information, alongside terabytes of corporate data.

This week, Medtronic commenced the process of dispatching written notification letters to all affected parties. The company has confirmed that patient personal and medical information, encompassing names, contact information, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and specific health-related details, was indeed exfiltrated by the attackers.
